Betta fish – a favorite pet choice Before you put a fish

You've looked at all the lovely photographs and done your research, and now you've concluded that a betta fish is an ideal pet for you. Good decision!

But what information should you have before purchasing your betta fish? What recommendations are available for selecting a healthy betta fish?

First move: Setting up your aquarium should come before purchasing a betta fish. Aquariums should be cycled before adding fish—ordinarily, two weeks.

Finding betta fish at the best price

Do you wonder where to get betta fish? A neighborhood (independent) pet shop is usually the best place to get a betta fish. Check out some internet reviews and ask friends and family if they can recommend any places in the area.

Say No to Large National Pet Stores

For live fish stock, large national pet stores are frequently not advised. Too many instances of carelessness (dead fish in tanks/tanks not maintained) have occurred.

Even the sale of betta fish in tiny cups from giant national retailers has been seen; they should be avoided at all costs. A betta fish cannot survive in this setting. Because there is so little water, it will become contaminated very quickly, which causes many betta fish ailments.

Purchasing for Saving

This increases the likelihood that you may purchase a sick fish, but we also think that storing live animals is harsh to them and shouldn't be encouraged. Some betta fish enthusiasts purchase them under the pretense of "saving" them.

Look for red flags

Wherever you decide to purchase your fish, ensure the tanks are kept clean. Never buy a fish from an aquarium with a dead or ill fish; that's your most prominent red flag.

Signs of Healthy Betta fish

·         Look for deep vibrant colors.

·         Big flowing fins.

·         Swimming with ease.

Signs Of Unhealthy Betta Fish

·         Check closely on the tips of its fins. Are they slightly darker, or are they white – either of these could be a sign of fin rot

·         Visible skin problems – wounds, scars, ulcers, parasites – obviously a no.

·         Fins shouldn’t be ragged or damaged at the margins. Another red flag is fins that are closed or clamped.

·         No stomach swelling was present.

·         The Betta's body has a few tiny white spots that could be ich. Velvet will be a dusty gold mist. Avoid them both since they are parasites!

·         Lurking in the corner or not swimming in a horizontal direction.

Unique betta variants

·         There are several distinct betta species, but the world’s biggest betta fish is thought to be giant betta fish (Betta anabantoids).

·         Among the Betta species, Betta Imbellis is one of the tiniest. The females only slightly outgrow the males in terms of length, which can reach 2 inches for the males.

·         The fantail variant of Betta is the rarest one. The two caudal fins on this fish are united at a little point at the top, giving it the appearance of a fantail goldfish.

·         Veiltail bettas are among the most well-known and popular betta fish breeds and are distinguished by their strikingly long fins.
